generalized anxiety disorder, also known as "GAD" (from Generalized Anxiety Disorder) is commonly known as noise to the separate world reference manual for psychiatric disorders and psychological manual known as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of or, more simply, DSM IV-TR, from English "Diagnostic Statistical Manual version IV, Text Revision.
Recently, more and more experts have begun to express doubts about the legitimacy of this classification. GAD, they say, does not present the characteristics of a disorder in itself, for a number of reasons. See for example the graph in the figure to the side.
But if there is a disturbance, then, what is it? A personality trait, say these scholars. If this hypothesis was verified, several important consequences.
GAD as a disease is not curable. It could only be mitigated and circumscribed.
It would make more sense given antidepressants as is done today.
GAD should no longer appear among the anxiety disorders.
